HealthDay - THURSDAY, July 24 (HealthDay News) -- Between 2002 and 2005, thenumber of prescriptions filled for antidepressant drugs increased from 154million to 170 million, according to a report released Thursday by theU.S. government.

With an unusual plant with a more unusual name, the Hoodia Gordonii has been making waves when it comes to the next big thing in dietary pills. At first you'll think it's an Italian full name but if you pay attention closely you'll find out that the Hoodia Gordonii has indeed live to its expectations, it's not like it's just another generic name that comes out on the market and people started using it and boom, popularity hits. The effects of this dietary pill have testimonials, people have seen and experienced the effects and the comments so far are good. Some of course have turn away because it didn't quite effect on them but the majority comments are on a positive note.

Hoodia Gordonii which also goes by the name hoodia, xhooba, !khoba, Ghaap, hoodia cactus and South African desert cactus is a cactus-like plant that grows primarily in the semi-deserts of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and Angola. It has been heavily and consistently marketed as a dietary pill of weight loss and to eliminate obesity which a great fact considering the ban on ban on the herb ephedra, we thought that the market will lay low on herb diet pills. But Hoodia Gordonii indeed has taken its hype to a whole new level, not only that this pill has been emerging for years it has actually lived up to the expectations. Hoodia is always considered as a cactus based on its appearance but lo and behold Hoodia is actually a succulent plant.

There are roughly 13 types of Hoodia, experts really can't tell what are the main ingredients but the The only active ingredient identified so far is a steroidal glycoside that has been called "p57", and oddly only Hoodia contains p57. It has worked wonders and one has to isolate the fact that Hoodia has historical proof to vouch for it. The popular belief is that the San Bushmen have used Hoodia to suppress their appetite for long days of hunting, they say that the San Bushmen eats the stem of the Hoodia and the bitter juice of it and they are able to last days without eating.

In 1937, researches were made on San Bushmen and the Hoodia and experts have found facts based on their evidences they have made experiments and actually seen the proof when they have feed it to animals the effects actually were seen. Animals who took Hoodia did lose weight and from there more research was conducted and they have concluded that the herb is indeed a dietary supplement. Side effects of Hoodia still doesn't have proper documentation as there were no publicized incident that Hoodia has shown side effects although some researchers claims that there are indeed some side effects on the drug, they still haven't prove anything yet. Hoodia has been surprising anyone who uses it because the fact that the pill have been showing effects, proof and testimonials, research have certified it and history have backed it up, so as much as I have understand Hoodia Gordonii, I know that it is a good option for weight loss.
